Unleash Your Voice, Capture Change!

The National Young Reporters for the Environment (NYRE) competition is back for 2025! This annual competition challenges youth from 10 - 24 years old across Malaysia to raise awareness of environmental issues through writing, photography, and videography. If you're passionate about storytelling and sustainability, this is your chance to make an impact!

The Themes

The Young Reporters for the Environment (YRE) programme aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), promoting a holistic and community-driven approach to sustainability. Participants are encouraged to explore real-world environmental challenges in their communities, connecting their work to key SDG themes.

Before choosing their topics, young reporters reflect on how their stories, photos, or videos relate to the global sustainability agenda. The programme focuses on three (3) core themes of creative environmental journalism, guiding participants to produce impactful, solution-driven reports.

Environment Pollution

Pollution

Exotic Bird

Loss of Biodiversity

Drought

Climate Change

Lettuce Farm

Every year, the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) shines the spotlight on one global theme for young environmental storytellers to explore!

Last year, the focus was Ecosystem Restoration as an initiative under the collaboration with UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration 2021–2030. Students dove into topics like reforestation, river clean-ups, and protecting biodiversity. And this year's global theme is:

'Food Security & Climate Change'
