One Take Photo

Emphasise on telling a compelling story about a single environmental issue

Submission Guidelines

Format

JPEG or PNG, with a resolution of at least 150-300 DPI

Composition

Well-composed, with a clear subject and a visually appealing arrangement of elements

Lighting

The photo should be well-lit, avoiding harsh shadows or overexposure

Sharpness

The photo should be in focus, with a clear and sharp image

Competition Rubrics

The competition rubrics serve as a guideline for evaluating submissions based on specific criteria such as below:

Format & Structure

  1. Must have title of no more than 140 characters.

  2. Must have a description of no more than 100 words and a caption of no more than 20 words OR only a description of maximum 120 words in total.

  3. The description and caption should explain the environmental link and/or solutions to issue presented in the photograph.

  4. Must be technically and artistically of good quality. This includes composition, lighting, colour, sharpness, and subject.

Constructive and Well-Rounded Perspective

1. Photographic works should address the aspects of historical, economic, social, and/or political implications in the topics chosen for the participant’s project through an environmental perspective.

2. Photographs and captions used must show the connection between local and global events, issues, and/or phenomenon.

3. The written description and/or caption of the photo should include relevant and workable solutions to the environmental issues presented in the photo.

Dissemination

Participants are required to share their work through a minimum of 3 different channels. A total of 5 point may be awarded for dissemination through the following channels:

  • Personal Sphere = 2 points
  • School Community = 1 point

  • National Media (Newspaper, TV, Radio) = 2 points​

Honest & Unbiased Reporting

  1. The photograph is a fair and truthful representation of reality and the subject and/or scene has not been significantly manipulated or altered. Edits do NOT alter the reality of the subject or object of the photo.

  2. Any quotes used must be from real and credible sources.

  3. Facts, statistics, and scientific information must be supported by credible sources.

  4. Sources used in the video must be cited using either footnotes or APA/MLA style.

Originality & Independence

1. The photographs taken by the participants themselves are of genuine and unique subjects and/or scopes.

2. Participants picked challenging topics or described them in various ways.

3. Participants create photography works in a creative manner.

4. Participants conducted fieldwork and research on specific topics outside of the school grounds.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1. Who may enter the competition?

A1: This competition is open to all Malaysians youth of any institutions (public, private, homeschool) aged between 10 to 24 years old.

Q2. How to submit the entry?

A2: Submissions will open in April 2025 and must be submitted via Google Form, with details provided later in YRE Malaysia social media platforms.

Q3. When is the deadline for submission?

A3:  The deadline for submission is on or before 11.59 p.m., 30th September 2025.

Q4.  Ownership of Intellectual Property 

A4: By participating in this Competition, each participant grants the sole absolute, unequivocal, and irrevocable ownership and/or intellectual property right over the article and contents thereto.
