YRE Malaysia organized the NYRE 2022 - Media Literacy  Workshop with a writer and a co-founder from the Malaysia Information Literacy Education (MILE), Ms Hazwany Jamaluddin.

Ms Hazwany Jamaluddin is a  multidisciplinary researcher who specializes in project management, operations, business development and marketing. She co-founded Malaysia Information Literacy Education (MILE) focusing about fakes news, misinformation and disinformation. She also graduated from Universiti Selangor (UNISEL) with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Statistics, Applied Statistics and Applied Mathematics. In 2021, she co-authored a module under UNESCO’s Media Information Literacy (MIL) Module Development for Media & Communications Students.

 

In this workshop, the participants are exposed to what is fake news and how to utilise their critical thinking skills in identifying fake news. Participants had the chance to play an interactive browser role-playing game created by MILE, called ‘Choices I Make’. From the game, participants are able to experience the perspectives of both victims and creators of fake news.
