Content

The article must be in English only.

Writing Quality

Plagiarised or AI-generated content will be disqualified.

Balanced and Objective

While personal opinions can be included, the article should present multiple perspectives and remain fact-driven.

Competition Rubrics

The competition rubrics serve as a guideline for evaluating submissions based on specific criteria such as below:

Format & Structure

No more than 1,000 words.
Must have title of no more than 140 characters.
Must be submitted in (.docx) format
Must include 1-3 images (photographs, illustrations, diagrams, etc.), sources for all images must be given.
Each photograph must have a caption of no more than 20 words.
Must include an introduction, body (supporting paragraphs) and conclusion and answer the questions of who, what, where, why, when, and how (5W1H questions).

Honest & Unbiased Reporting

Facts, statistics and scientific information must be supported by credible sources, to be listed in the References list.
Any quotes, diagrams, or pictures used must be from real and credible sources.
Sources used in the video must be cited using footnotes or a References list, either in APA or MLA style.
Avoid misleading headlines or exaggerated claims designed to provoke emotional reactions. Stick to objective, evidence-based storytelling.

Constructive and Well-Rounded Perspective

1. Articles should be balanced and fair in terms of representing different sides of an argument before suggesting possible solutions.

2. Article should explore the historical, economic, social and/or political implications of the chosen topic through an environmental lens.

3. The article should show the link between local and global events, issues and/or phenomena.

4. The article should include relevant, feasible and constructive solutions to environmental issues.

5. Present multiple viewpoints on an issue, especially when covering controversial or complex topics.

Originality & Independence

1. Plagiarised or AI content will be disqualified.

2. The article is original in content and/or scope.

3. Participants picked challenging topics or described them in various ways.

4. Participants conducted fieldwork, research and interviews (either in-person or over the phone) outside of the school grounds.

Dissemination

Participants are required to share their work through a minimum of 3 different channels. A total of 5 point may be awarded for dissemination through the following channels:

Personal Sphere = 2 points
School Community = 1 point
National Media (Newspaper, TV, Radio) = 2 points

Ensure proper grammar, spelling, punctuation and clarity. A polished article makes a stronger impact.

Q1. Who may enter the competition?

A1: This competition is open to all Malaysians youth of any institutions (public, private, homeschool) aged between 10 to 24 years old.

Q2. How to submit the entry?

A2: Submissions will open in April 2025 and must be submitted via Google Form, with details provided later in YRE Malaysia social media platforms.

Q3. When is the deadline for submission?

A3: The deadline for submission is on or before 11.59 p.m., 30th September 2025.

A4: By participating in this competition, each participant grants the sole absolute, unequivocal, and irrevocable ownership and/or intellectual property right over the article and contents thereto.
