YRE Malaysia organised the NYRE 2021 - Media Literacy Workshop with an experienced journalist with a demonstrated history of working in the online media industry, Norman Goh.

​

Norman Goh is an independent journalist and producer of; Bicara Minggu Ini, and is currently pursuing a Master’s in Public Policy with the University of Malaya. He is a fact-checking journalist with Agence France Presse (AFP) and also an independent journalist with South China Morning Post (SCMP) based in Kuala Lumpur. He was the social media editor of Malaysiakini prior to joining the government as the special functions officer to the minister of Foreign Affairs on media and strategic communications. He was also a prominent speaker during the WAN-IFRA conference on audience intelligence and facilitated sharing experiences with Tempo and Suara.com in Indonesia on social media management, election reporting, and newsroom management. Norman has also trained editors and journalists on social media strategies for newsrooms in Myanmar under the MDIF banner in 2017.

In this workshop, Norman gave a compelling presentation covering four (4) chapters; 1) Breaking the News - Separating the Myths from Facts, 2) Understanding Information Disorder - What are misinformation and disinformation, 3) Methodologies of Fact-Checking - Getting to know the key steps and checklist and 4) Verification Tool - How to spot fake news.
